Almost two weeks ago, we completed the first Elite Hurdle Camp in Flagstaff, AZ! Thanks to our SIC community, my athletes who volunteered, my family, and every camper who came, it was one of the most memorable and positive camps!
I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to every parent/guardian and camper that came! You are the reason I do this every year. It’s incredible to see how fast and how well each camper progresses! You all have a chance at greatness! Keep believing in you.
On the first day, I met with athletes from over ten states across the country ready to learn new skills and drills! We started with warm up drills. My collegiate athletes assisted to help make sure campers understood each drill.
Then the fun started! Campers learned fence/wall drills and ground hurdle drills. Then with those fundamental skills we moved on to half hurdle drills, over the middles, and other core drills from my training.
One of the most common questions I get the first day of camp is “do I have to use my weak lead leg?”
The answer is “YES”! I don’t care if you’re a state champion, a beginner, or a collegiate—we ALWAYS drill both legs. 100H/110H all the way up to 400H1 it’s a necessary skill that can take you from good to great, and great to elite.
Of course we worked on block starts and reaction! Campers learned about setting blocks, set positions, drive steps, 7 or 8 steps to hurdle one, and how to get yourself to a consistent 3 step. Who’s the fastest out of the blocks—Who’s the most efficient and fundamental—You or your opponent?
During the lunch break, campers asked the collegiate athletes questions. There is so much value in talking, connecting, and being brave enough to ask for advice. The collegiate athletes were very excited and grateful for all the good questions and responses.
Like I said before, I appreciate every camper and coach that attended and all the people that helped make camp possible. There were some STUDS at camp and each camper showed great progress. I hope next season is even better. And if you have good news don’t be afraid to share! I love hearing how past campers progress. I’m wishing you all the best and maybe I’ll see you next year!👏👏👏

NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR COACHES
This summer I’m offering one on one training plan consultations! I’ll look over and talk through one block of training with you.
Worried that your conditioning phase is too long? Too short? Has too much volume? Or do you want to talk about training plans in general? I’m here!
$200 for consultations on 4 weeks/1 block of training
If you’re interested message Coach Clark with days/times you’re available with your local time zone before he’s fully booked.
Campers learn why using both legs is important to their development. Some coaches don’t train both legs in hurdles but I do. And at camp you’ll learn why and how.
