Winter Break Motivation (and workouts)
Elite Winter Camp is coming up! There's still time to register.
Every winter break I write my athletes a letter and give them workouts to do while they’re away. And this is a letter for my athletes—but also a letter for you. We are in the job of motivating and sometimes, even coaches need a little pep talk.
The season is fast approaching and it’s easy to forget how close the first meet really is. TFRRS is loading up. Who will be at the top?
Track and field is a sport that is always full of underdogs, surprises, and new talent. It doesn’t matter where you come from—it matters where you finish.
I fully believe that my team can make national noise and surprise the biggest names in the NCAA. What do you believe your team can accomplish at the conference level and the national level? I tell my athletes all the time…We are limitless when we work hard and stay committed to the process! And that goes for coaches too. I am honored to have this job and be where I am today. Don’t get me wrong, the season won’t be easy, but I’m not interested in easy things anyway. Because without struggle, there is no growth. Let’s struggle. Let’s grow. What are your expectations:
I came to NAU with a clear vision and goal: to help continue to dominate the Big Sky and work towards NCAA Championship trophies on both the men’s and women’s side. And now…it’s almost time to come together to put that uniform on and compete. Just like our athletes we have to contribute to the team with enthusiasm and pride. Find a new level, a new skill, a new idea that will catapult your team to success. It’s time to level UP.
We say this to our athletes all the time but we need it too…
Do what needs to be done instead of doing what you feel like doing. Success is a series of actions repeated without interruption or excuses. Many people around us will focus on excuses, circumstances, and feelings rather than problem-solving and consistent, persistent work. Create the habit of deciding what you want, staying the course of your journey and giving yourself a real chance at accomplishing your goals. You are capable of high levels of success so commit! Get through the hard times. Get through the obstacles. Get through what others won’t and do it with enthusiasm!
Below you will see an example of a block of workouts I’ve sent my athletes. I ask my athletes to please take the break seriously. I am not expecting everyone to do every single workout. However, if they are healthy then please put in the work! Some might pick and choose, but as long as they get four legit workouts in each week (plus the weight room) I’m good! I will not ask if they did the work. I will not check in (they’re grown and I understand it’s holiday break) but they are welcome to check in with me.
I am so grateful for this group of Success Is Choice coaches. Thank you for being here! And remember, payday is coming soon! Have a great winter break.
