Coaches from all backgrounds and sports are asked, “How do you structure a training plan for your athletes?”
And it seems like everyone has a different answer—Periodization, 6-Week Blocks, 3-Week Blocks, 4-Week Blocks, Linear, Mesocyles, No structure (AKA chaos)…and the list goes on. There are a lot of different ways to get to the finish line. I’m not a fan of all of them, but as the saying goes, do what works for you (and your athletes).
When I started coaching over 20 years ago, I had to find what worked best for me, and more than that, I had to figure out what made sense to me. I went to clinics, talked to coaches, and did trial and error. Now, when I think of training blocks/plans these are the three things that make the most sense to me.
